About Labor Acupressure
Sometimes the oldest remedies are the best. Labor acupressure has been around for thousands of years and this ancient method is finding more and more fans around the world, because labour acupressure works.
More than five thousand years ago Chinese physicians found that soldiers with battle wounds found relief from chronic illnesses. After years of study the Chinese doctors mapped out a plethora of points on the body that relieve different conditions. These points can either be stimulated through pressure (acupressure) or needles (acupuncture). There are points on the body that can help relieve almost any human condition: including labor by labor acupressure.
Now it is no secret that child labor is tough. Every woman has a different experience in childbirth, but every woman experiences pain. Labor acupressure may help to relieve some of the pain of child birth in a manner that is completely drug free and safe for mom and bubba.

One of the best uses of labor acupressure is to use pressure points to strengthen contractions or when the waters have broken, but the labor has not yet started. Pressure points may also be manipulated if you are overdue and want to bring on labor. To reduce pain during contractions there are several pressure labour acupressure points on the body that can be manipulated by your birth partner.
Labor acupressure spots are located all over a woman’s body from her ankle to her butt to her hand. Learning where these points are and how to manipulate them effectively can offer a woman a faster labor and a less painful one in a completely natural and safe way.
Pressure points tend to be pretty sensitive and will feel to the mom a little like a bruise. Place pressure on the spot several times varying the pressure. If your labor partner is providing the pressure give feedback to them so they know when they have hit the spot. If the spot really hurts then tell ‘em to ease up a little on the pressure.
We are all individuals: not all moms will respond to all the pressure points, but some of them will surely work for you. As with anything medical or therapeutic it is always best to check with your health practitioner before getting stuck in and trying something. If your health provider is not familiar with acupressure find someone qualified that is and who can give you an accurate assessment of its appropriateness for you: Someone with their finger on the pulse so to speak.
